Writing about real people from history can be challenging, sensitive, exciting, and deeply rewarding. When I began writing Becoming a Woman of Substance, I knew I wanted to include real historical figures who would have intersected with my protagonist Miriam's world.
The talk will cover how I research historical figures, how I decide which real people to include, how I handle the ethical questions of putting words in real people's mouths, and how I balance historical accuracy with storytelling.
